Apple Releases APIs for Apple Intelligence and Localized English Language Support
Apple on Wednesday released developer betas iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, delivering new Apple Intelligence features including Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand, and ChatGPT integration.
Apple Intelligence Features
The software updates arrive the week before the public release of OS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which brings writing tools, image cleanup, article summaries, and a typing input for the redesigned Siri experience to the platforms.
Genmoji
Genmoji is a new feature that allows users to create custom emojis. Users can create their own emojis by drawing them, using text, or by using a combination of both.
Image Playground
Image Playground is a new feature that allows users to edit images using a variety of tools. Users can crop, resize, rotate, and flip images. They can also add filters, effects, and text to images.
Visual Intelligence
Visual Intelligence is a new feature that allows users to search for information about images. Users can use Visual Intelligence to find out what is in an image, where it was taken, or who created it.
Image Wand
Image Wand is a new feature that allows users to create images from text. Users can use Image Wand to create images of objects, people, places, and scenes.
ChatGPT Integration
ChatGPT Integration is a new feature that allows users to use ChatGPT to generate text, translate languages, and write different kinds of creative content.
Writing Tools
Apple has also released new writing tools that help users write better content. These tools include grammar and spelling checkers, as well as a new feature that helps users find and fix errors in their writing.
Image Cleanup
Image Cleanup is a new feature that helps users remove unwanted objects from images. Users can use Image Cleanup to remove clutter, blemishes, and other imperfections from images.
Article Summaries
Article Summaries is a new feature that helps users quickly understand the main points of an article. Users can use Article Summaries to get a brief overview of an article without having to read the entire thing.
Redesigned Siri
Apple has also redesigned Siri. The new Siri is more intuitive and easier to use. Users can now type their requests to Siri, instead of having to speak them.
APIs
Along with those updates comes APIs for three key Apple Intelligence features: Writing Tools API, Genmoji API, and Image Playground API. All are designed to help developers integrate Apple’s small model approach to generative AI into their apps.
Writing Tools API
The Writing Tools API allows developers to integrate Apple’s writing tools into their apps. This allows developers to provide their users with grammar and spelling checkers, as well as other writing tools.
Genmoji API
The Genmoji API allows developers to integrate Genmoji into their apps. This allows developers to provide their users with the ability to create custom emojis.
Image Playground API
The Image Playground API allows developers to integrate Image Playground into their apps. This allows developers to provide their users with the ability to edit images using a variety of tools.
Language Localization
Wednesday’s developer updates also expand language localization — though only for English. In addition to U.S. English, Apple has added Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, and U.K. localizations.
Apple previously announced that support for Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese will arrive next year. Notably, users in both China and the EU may not get any access to Apple Intelligence features, owing to regulatory hurdles.

Apple has released localized versions of its software for English speakers in the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
